. When the vent was off the air was entirely blocked. I think it’s metal with a rough black coating. WHen open, the air flowed even though fairly nicely. They search great with my new wood floors, providing the hint of elegance I was searching for. The bottom portion is plastic and felt instead fragile, so I had some breakage considerations. They do have screw holes if you want to use them as ceiling vents. It worked a lot far better than my old metal vents and didn’t look as fragile as soon as set up.
